Frequently Asked Questions

What is an avenYoo?

An avenYoo is like a chatroom and discussion web for groups, except everyone in the group doesn't have to be online at the same time. Any time you post something on your avenYoo, anyone who logs in will be able to see what you posted. If you are online at the same time as someone in your avenYoo, you will be able to chat with them in realtime. So, an avenYoo combines the speed of chatrooms with the fluidity of group discussion, and, as an added plus, you can post files and images to your avenYoos as well!

What can I use avenYoo for?

You can use an avenYoo for almost anything, from keeping a group of old friends or your family in touch, to maintaining a social network, to running an online discussion with your coworkers across the country. avenYoo is completely free, and you can have as many avenYoos as you like.

Can people see what is written on my avenYoos?

Not unless you want them to! When you create an avenYoo, it is set to private by default, which means that only members of the avenYoo can view what has been posted there. The administrator of the avenYoo can change whether non-members should be allowed to view the discussion, or even whether members should be allowed to post.

How do I start an avenYoo?

You can start an avenYoo simply by going to the front
page and choosing an avenYoo name! We check the name for you in realtime, to make sure it is available. When you have chosen a name, click 'Create avenYoo.' If you have already signed up, all you need to do is log in to complete the process. If you have not yet signed up, click 'Sign Up'. It only takes a few seconds.

How do I sign up?

There are two places where you can sign up for avenYoo. If you are invited into an avenYoo, you will be able to sign up via your email. If you are creating an avenYoo for the first time, you can sign up there, too. All fields are required, but all we need is your first and last name, email and a password! It's easy!

Can I just sign up without joining an avenYoo?

Unfortunately, we are in beta right now and we can only accept signups when the user has created an avenYoo or is invited into an existing avenYoo.

Why am I not logging in?

If you are trying to join an avenYoo for the first time, make sure you have already signed up! If you are not yet a user (or 'Yoo-ser' as we like to call them) then you have to sign up instead of just log in. Click 'Sign Up' and fill in the necessary information. If you are having trouble logging in from the front page, make sure Javascript is enabled in your broswer. avenYoo will not work without Javascript!

Why isn't my password resetting?

Your password won't reset if the email you type in is not in our user database. Make sure you have signed up. If you have not, you need to sign up by starting an avenYoo on the front page.

Why am I not receiving emails from avenYoo?

Make sure you check the junk or spam folder on your mail program. We try to avoid these filters, but occasionally emails from avenYoo will end up as spam. If you are trying to reset a password, and the reset email has not come through after 24 hours, please emails us directly at
passwordreset@avenyoo.com and we will reset the password for you.

How do I disable email notifications?

You can disable email notifications by going to your user settings and clicking the 'General' tab. You will be able to disable email notifications on that page. Be sure to save your changes when you are done.

What is my network?

Your network is all of the people who are in all of your avenYoos, including you. If you are in one avenYoo with 20 people, your network will be those 20 people. If you are in two avenYoos with 20 people each, your network will number 40, providing there is no overlap of people between avenYoos.

Help! It's not letting me post!

Sorry! There are some kinks with older browsers with avenYoo, specifically Firefox 1 and Safari 2. If you are having trouble posting or in any other way viewing the site, please let us know! Email us at
webmaster@avenyoo.com and copy and paste the following information into the message so we can diagnose your problem (and fix it):
CCBot/1.0 (+http://www.commoncrawl.org/bot.html)

Thank you for helping us make avenYoo more widely available!
